- H.E. Mr. David Sarpong BOATENG Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (Head of Mission)
His Excellency Mr. David Sarpong Boateng was born in Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana on 9th October, 1943. He is an Educationist by profession, a labour advocate, an astute politician and a legislator in the first parliament of the fourth Republic of Ghana. He completed his Primary and Middle School education in 1959, and in 1960, began studies in Education at Mount Mary Teacher Training College, Somanya, continuing at the Advanced Teachers Training College in Winneba from 1971 to 1973. At the various levels of his studies, he excelled with distinction. Owing to sheer hard work, brilliance and determination, he gained admission into the University of Cape Coast in 1974, where he graduated with Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Sociology in 1977. In 1981, he earned Certificates in Labour and Industrial Relations from the School of Labour and Industrial Relations of Cornell University, New York, USA. Spanning over fifteen years of working experience in the teaching profession, he taught in a number of Primary and Secondary Schools including Presbyterian Secondary School in Abetifi, Kwahu, and Benkum Secondary School in Larteh, Akuapem. He headed the Catholic Primary School in Oyoko, Koforidua, in the very beginning of his teaching career. In 1980, Mr. D.S. Boateng took up appointment with the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC), where he held some vital positions in its management – Organising Officer (1980 – 1981) and Administrative Secretary (1981 – 1985). He also became the Principal of the TUC’s Ghana Labour College from 1985 to 1986. During the PNDC and the NDC administrations, he handled a couple of ministerial portfolios as Minister. He served as the PNDC Deputy Secretary for the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare from 1986 to 1989, and subsequently became the substantive Secretary for that Ministry from 1989 to 1992. Mr. D.S. Boateng was elected to Parliament in 1992 to represent the people of Koforidua South for a four-year term (1992 -1996) and was appointed the Minister for Mobilisation and Social Welfare from 1993 to 1997. He later on became a Minister of State at the Presidency and a Presidential Staffer from 1997 to 1998 and 1998 to 2000, respectively. Prior to his appointment as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana to the Republic of Cuba with concurrent accreditation to six other countries, namely Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Panama and Nicaragua, he lectured at the Central University College in Accra as an Adjunct Lecturer in an MBA programme. Throughout his professional and political career, Mr. Boateng has been diligent and devoted his efforts in the social advancement of people all around him. His affable nature and the ever burning desire to help the needy and the voiceless mass of people irrespective of their background, stand him tall among the good people of Ghana. Ambassador D.S. Boateng is married to Mrs. Gladys Boateng and blessed with four grownup children. He is a product of the University of Ghana, the German Institute of International Development (DSE) and the Legon Centre for International Affairs. His previous postings were to Egypt and Sierra Leone. He joined the Havana Mission in August 2008.
She graduated from the University of Cape Coast and also holds an MA degree from the Legon Centre for International Affairs. She served previously in Denmark and has since September 2007 been with the Havana Mission.
He is a graduate of the University of Ghana. He has previously served in Burkina Faso. He joined the Havana Mission in March 2007.
He is in charge of Finance and Accounts and doubles as Protocol Officer. He holds HND in Accounting from Koforidua Polytechnic, a Teachers’ Certificate ‘A’ from Mount Mary Teacher Training College and a Certificate in French from University of St. Etienne, France. He joined the Ministry in September 2004 and in September 2006 was posted to the Havana Mission.
